Phillies Face Setback as Soso Suffers Ankle Injury, Out for Two Weeks.

The Philadelphia Phillies received unfortunate news as star infielder Johan “Soso” Martinez has been sidelined for at least two weeks due to an ankle injury. The setback comes at a crucial time for the Phillies, who are looking to maintain momentum early in the season.

Martinez sustained the injury during Monday’s game against the Braves while attempting to steal second base. He landed awkwardly on his right ankle and was immediately taken out of the game for evaluation. Subsequent medical tests confirmed a mild ankle sprain, ruling him out for at least two weeks.

“This is tough,” Martinez said in a statement. “I wanted to be out there helping my team, but I’ll focus on recovery and come back stronger.”

Martinez has been a key piece of the Phillies’ lineup, batting .285 with three home runs and 12 RBIs in the early stages of the season. His absence will leave a noticeable gap in both the batting order and infield defense. Manager Rob Thomson expressed disappointment but remained optimistic about his team’s ability to adapt.

“Losing Soso is a blow, no doubt,” Thomson said. “But we have guys ready to step up. He’ll get the treatment he needs, and we’ll be ready for his return.”

The Phillies are expected to rely on utility infielder Bryson Stott and veteran Edmundo Sosa to fill the void in the short term. However, losing Martinez’s bat and defensive skills could pose a challenge against tough upcoming opponents.

For now, the Phillies will have to adjust without one of their key players, hoping Martinez’s recovery stays on schedule for his return to action.
