Otega Oweh had a more complicated choice to navigate than many people knew.
The BBN got a major boost when Otega Oweh announced he’d be coming back to Lexington for his senior year.
While many in the college basketball world anticipated this outcome, it turns out the decision wasn’t as clear-cut as people assumed.
CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander shed light on how things actually unfolded for the Kentucky star.
“Otega Oweh went through a unique journey. A month ago, I would’ve confidently said he’d test the waters but ultimately return to Kentucky—and that’s exactly what happened,” Norlander explained.
“But during that time, he received even more promising feedback than expected—exactly what he was hoping for, though it wasn’t guaranteed. In the end, the choice turned out to be tougher than it appeared.”
As suspected, his NIL deal played a significant role in swaying him to stay in Lexington.
“From what I’ve heard, Oweh will be well-compensated, which makes sense. He was Kentucky’s top player, and the program is one of the most financially powerful in college hoops. A major NIL deal is waiting for him.”
Though it was a close call, the outcome favored Kentucky—something fans can definitely celebrate.
