Colts’ $54 Million Acquisition Ready to Make a Strong Return This Season.

The Indianapolis Colts invested more than $142 million during the 2025 NFL Free Agency period, with over $110 million allocated specifically to strengthening their secondary.

One of their most notable signings was cornerback Charvarius Ward, who inked a three-year contract worth $54 million.

Dalton Wasserman of Pro Football Focus highlighted Ward as a player with the potential for a strong bounce-back season.

“Ward posted a career-low coverage grade of 58.2 in 2024. After the 49ers allowed him to enter free agency, he joined Indianapolis, where he is expected to fit well into Lou Anarumo’s zone-heavy defensive scheme,” Wasserman explained for PFF. “Ward’s zone-coverage grade of 66.3 last season was closer to his usual performance, and during his impressive 2023 season, he earned an 86.5 coverage grade, ranking 10th among qualified cornerbacks.”

PFF ranked Ward 149th out of 222 qualifying cornerbacks last year. Ward appeared in 12 games last season while playing for the San Francisco 49ers.
