Breaking news. Two astros players drop retirement date.
Several notable Houston Astros players have recently retired or made significant career changes. One of the most prominent is Michael Brantley, a veteran outfielder who announced his retirement in January 2024 after 15 seasons in Major League Baseball. Brantley, known for his consistency and leadership, finished his career with a .298 batting average, 129 home runs, and over 1,600 hits. Although he missed much of the 2022 season due to injury, Brantley remained a crucial figure in the Astros’ clubhouse, helping the team win a World Series in 2022. Post-retirement, he plans to spend more time with his family and coach his sons in Little League.
Astros’ manager Dusty Baker also decided to retire after the 2023 season. Baker, who led the Astros to a World Series title in 2022, concluded an illustrious career as both a player and manager, leaving behind a legacy that includes becoming one of only a few to win the World Series as both.
In addition, longtime relievers such as Hector Neris, Ryne Stanek, and Phil Maton have departed the Astros as free agents, marking significant shifts for the team’s bullpen.
