SO SAD: Canelo Alvarez involved in a car accident……..
The UFC struck an agreement with boxing broadcaster DAZN in the lead-up to fight night to ensure their respective main events didn’t coincide.
As a result, there was a hefty 1-hour, 38-minute gap between Ryan Garcia blasting out Romero Duno in the opening round of the co-main event and the start of Canelo-Kovalev.
Pictures from backstage caught both men lying down in their dressing rooms, looking very peeved off, while they waited for the conclusion of the UFC 244 feature attraction between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz.
“He was lying on the couch, working in the room, just waiting and waiting and thinking about the fight, probably,” Kovalev’s manager, Egis Klimas, told ESPN.
“It didn’t help at all, for sure. I’ll tell you that much.”
Klimas claims they were told that their ring walk could be as early as 10.15 pm, but it didn’t turn out that way.
“So then we arrived, we were told, ‘Now it’s going to go as soon as the UFC fight was over, which is probably going to be about 9:30,'” Klimas said.
